Building a
Post-Modern Learning Community
Giving our
lives away does not come easily. We could say, “It just takes
commitment” or “We just need to be more spiritual.” Both of those may
have an element of truth in them but there is another ingredient also.
Brian McLaren puts it this way in Church on the Other Side:
“Someone has said
that the learners will inherit the earth while the learned are equipped
to face a world that no longer exists. That’s the reality of the new
world. Actually, there may no longer be such a thing as the learned in
the new world – only learners and nonlearners. And if only the fittest
survive, maybe we’re being too optimistic. Maybe there will be no
nonlearners – only fast learners who thrive and slow learners who merely
survive.”
What is Co-Net.cc?
You can see above what these abbreviations stand for. Co-Net, for
short, is a tool to network people in a learning environment who want to
become more effective followers of Christ. The format of learning can
include:
Selecting recommended
books to read
Attending a class
Creating a personal spiritual growth plan
Taking action based on new learning to work effectively in God’s Kingdom
The future belongs to
the Learners
Co-Net primarily happens on Wednesday evenings as far as course work is
concerned. Co-learning groups can happen anytime, anywhere. One goal
is for Co-Net methods to transfer into other group settings such as
Fellowship Bible Classes on Sunday and perhaps even committees and
teams.
