OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1845 by John Bryce, a Baptist minister who was also the United States Collector of Customs for goods entering from the Republic of Texas, the church started with nine members. The church grew to a peak of over five thousand members. Beginning in either borrowed or rented quarters the church now occupies an impressive campus on Ockley Drive. Take a virtual tour. Located originally in what was then a brawling, lusty river town, the church has grown with the city of Shreveport, has contributed to civic leadership, and has influenced the development of the city as Shreveport became a regional center.

Throughout its long and colorful history the church has had an evangelistic heart for people, a ministering concern for the needs of people, and a mission imperative that thrusts it into the world that all see Jesus. Having seen Jesus as Savior and giver of life, the church has served Jesus in creative and innovative ways.
